Established in 1969 by Director Victor Clark, W4KFC, this award recognizes a long history of significant, consistent contribution to Amateur Radio within the Roanoke Division.

Stuart “Stu” Mitchell WA0DYJ

Woodbridge, Virginia • 57th recipient

Stu first became licensed in 1956 after collecting and fixing World War II radios while living in the Philippines. His callsign comes from his time as student at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he earned his electrical engineering degree. After a career in the Army, much of it stationed overseas, Stu opened a computer store in Woodbridge, Virginia which he ran for 35 years. He''s also been active in his local Rotary club.

In Ham Radio, Stu enjoys WSJT and he is currently experimenting with moon bounce. He is an avid VHF contester through the W4IY group from mountain tops, and he maintains three repeaters in the Woodbridge area. He was a founder in 1972 and remains a director of the Woodbridge Wireless Amateur Radio Club, an ARRL Special Service Club. Stu embodies the spirit of service through numerous selfless contributions to Amateur Radio.
